History of the Black Education Association

history

Founded in 1970 and formally chartered 1972, the Black Education Association was formed to provide a basic support system, as well as a conduit for addressing issues related to Black faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University. Current and past initiatives supported and promoted by the BEA include:

  • Research symposia
  • Professional development workshops on promotion and tenure
  • Faculty recruitment, retention and development programs
  • The FAME program for junior faculty
  • The Black Research Institute
  • Faculty Fellow Program
